WindSkate: 1st game in development / 1er jeu en developpement

I started to develop WindSkate a year ago. I started from a simple statement: I love sailing, but this sport does not translate well in the video game world.

Why? On water, action is pretty slow and there are too few elements to interact with. It ends up being boring (usually).

So transposing the sailing race world into something more appealing, faster, still fairly realist, but with a simple gameplay made sense. I mixed it with the skateboard world, taking some components and using ground world elements (trees, house, bumps, surface differences…) to add value to the race.

That’s how WindSkate was born, a game made by a sailing passionate, but a non professional video game creator. In fact, his is my first game: As I started, I didn’t know anything about creating a video game, but I started to use Unity and Blender, and after few months I had a consistent concept.

Gameplay is today mature enough to be tested by a wider audience:2 levels can be tested, and the player has the choice between few sails and skateboards (which impact the performance). It is not much, but enough to get an idea of the final game…


 

J’ai commencé a developer WindSkate il y a 1 an maintenant. Je suis parti d’un constat simple: J’aime la voile, mais ce sport se traduit mal en jeu video.

Pourquoi? Parcequ’en general, les choses se déroulent lentement par essence, et sur la mer, il ne se passe pas grand chose non plus…

D’ou l’idée de transposer la course a la voile en quelque chose de plus attractif, rapide, réaliste mais simple a prendre en main. Transposé a l’univers du skateboard en en prenant des composants, et en utilisant les éléments du decors pour ajouter de l’intérêt aux courses.

Voilà comment est né WindSkate, un jeu fait par un passionné de voile, mais un non professionnel absolu du jeu video! Quand j’ai commencé, je ne connaissais rien au monde du jeu video. J’ai commencé a utiliser Unity & Blender et en quelques mois je commençais a avoir le concept qui tenait la route.

Aujourd’hui, le gameplay est presque prêt. Il y a 2 niveaux, quelques choix de voiles et de skateboards. C’est peu, mais ca permet de se faire une idée du jeu final…
